About

I'm a design methodologist and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada.  My real home page is http://deseng.ryerson.ca/~fil.  I'm keenly interested in staying organized because I'm inherently lazy.  And the more organized I am, the more time I have to be lazy.

I've worked at keeping myself organized for decades - I guess it's an occupational hazard for academics.  Over the last couple of years, however, I have reflected more intensely on personal productivity, and I've also read up on the many existent methods to improve my productivity.  Armed with that information, I've found I'm being far more conscious about how I manage my productivity.  Given my natural inclination to designing, it's not surprising I'm moving from conscious reflection into proactive design and development of personal productivity methods.

For the past few years I've been blogging mostly about design; my design blog is at http://filsalustri.wordpress.com.  But lately, more and more of my posts have had to do with personal productivity, so I thought I should separate the two.  Hence this blog.

I'm using blogger for this one instead of wordpress because I want to (try to) earn a little something on the side, without having to administer a whole website for it myself.  I am definitely not interested in getting rich off this site; I'm just trying to offset the time investment I (intend to) put into this blog.

There's a number of key background posts that help explain the "philosophy" behind my approach to personal productivity.  Here's a list of those posts:
